Our Dedication

We work hard to help people. As you can tell from looking through our website, at Johnson Sauer Legal Group, we want you to be informed, making smart choices, and surviving this divorce. Very few people are happy at the end of the divorce process, but hopefully our clients understand the process, why we made the choices we did, and feel confident in the results.
Our focus is to keep your focus on what’s important. By doing that, you’ll not only save money but you’ll also be getting better results. We know how hard it can be to focus on reasonable objectives in these highly emotional cases, but successfully doing that enables you to let go of the things we cannot change and make positive choices about the things we can.
Family law is a hard choice for a lawyer, given the high degree of conflict and the emotions involved. But our lawyers have chosen this field because we know we can make a difference, in a very personal and real way, for countless people and their kids. We feel good about the job we do because every day, we make that difference.
Team Approach

When you meet with a lawyer on our staff you should know that the entire firm will be working with that lawyer in your interests. We generally assign two lawyers to each case so we can keep the costs down by assigning some work to a less expensive lawyer and to be sure there is extra coverage, should it be needed.
In addition, a paralegal is assigned to the file to handle the day to day tasks and to make sure that some tasks are billed at a lower rate.
Finally, every week our lawyers meet to discuss cases and issues over lunch. These meetings are generally not billed to the client as they are educational in nature and allow us to share strategies and experience.
Technology

For many law firms, it makes absolutely no sense to be more efficient – the longer the lawyers spend doing a task, the more money the law firm makes. Why invest in mechanisms that create fewer billable hours?
We think that’s nonsense. We want our clients to be happy with our performance. We want them to know we earned our fee and were sensitive to their budgets.
That’s why we invest heavily in technology to make our lawyers and staff more productive:
- All files are digital
- Our primary means of communicating with clients – and with the courts – is via email
- Email is delivered to our phones 24 hours a day
- Voicemails are sent to us by email as well as being kept on our phones
- Secure access allows us to work anywhere in the world, any time of day
In many ways, we’ve pioneered the use of technology in Colorado law firms. And we continue to push the limits of technology because we believe being more efficient lets us focus on what’s really important and what we love to do – advocate for clients in family law cases.

The Great Contradiction

Many law firms operate by placing pressure on their lawyers to bill an insane amount of hours every month. At the same time the firm is trying to bill the client all these hours, the interest of the client may be best served by not letting the lawyer engage in all the work.
For example, at a settlement conference a client may best be served by taking a deal. Yet, the lawyer may best be served by rejecting the deal, stirring up a fight, and meeting his or her billable hourly goal for the next few months.
Of course lawyers are ethically bound to act in a client’s best interests at all times – even when the interests of the client may conflict with the lawyer’s own personal goals. But when a law firm places so much emphasis on the billable hour, and a young lawyer’s fate may be determined by this one case, a great contradiction exists.
At Johnson Sauer, we completely separate a lawyer’s compensation from the fees a lawyer collects. Collecting a fee is left to other administrative staff members and only in extreme situations of last resort does the lawyer become involved.
We feel this approach allows lawyers to be lawyers and to focus on one thing only – doing the best thing for the client.
